In this video we show you a simple Automower repair that has caused issues for many people. We receive a lot of calls and emails about how to remove the flanged hex head screw that holds the bearing hub assembly on the cutting motor shaft of a Husqvarna Automower? Here is how we do it in our shop! We remove the cap and the skid plate to get down to the button head hex screw to remove the bearing hub assembly, but the hex part of the screw is stripped out and the the Allen wrench just spins without grabbing and loosening the screw. Rather than trying to drill through the hard of the screw and all of that stuff, we grab a grinder with a thin cut off wheel and cut a slot in the head of the screw. It's best to do this with a thin cut off wheel because we do not want a wide groove in the screw head. Now that we have this groove cut we can use a large flat head screwdriver to remove the damaged screw. It's important to pay attention when attempting this procedure because the cut off wheel will likely cut into the plastic bearing housing, but as long as you don't cut it too deeply it can still be reused if needed. The part number of the button head hex screw used to hold the bearing hub to the Automower's cutting motor is 535076001. And if you didn't know, the screw requires a 4mm Allen wrench to install it and remove it.........unless it's damaged like the one in this video. In this video we take a look at the REV 07 Husqvarna Automower wheel motor and one of the important little differences between it and the previous variation that looks nearly identical to it. If you've ordered a new wheel motor for your Husqvarna Automower and received part number 581621307 (581 62 13-07) then you probably noticed that it looks identical to the 581621306 (581 62 13-06) version other than the rubber ring at the back of the wheel motor where the wires exit the body of the motor. Believe it or not, this small rubber ring is actually an important and much welcomed added improvement because it helps to protect the wheel motor wiring from being damaged by the sharp edge of the motor housing. Over the years we have received brand new wheel motors from Husqvarna and found that the wires were damaged and in some cases sliced completely through during shipping. This was pretty rare, but was obviously an issue. The next time that we saw similar damage was during the repair of a 435X Automower. The ends of the wheel motors in the rear chassis are very close to each other so there isn't a lot of room between the ends of the wheel motors for the wiring, and then there is a sensor board and cables attached to the upper chassis that fit directly over top of the wheel motor wiring. This caused the wires to be smashed against the wheel motor housing in some cases and while the mower is out working the vibrations would cause the wires to rub the housing and get damaged. And, despite the wheel motor that you remove from your mower having a sticker with a number such as 5863561-05 printed on it, that is not the actual part number for the complete wheel motor assembly (motor & gearbox). The part number for the wheel motor assembly changes as upgrades are made, such as the simple addition of this rubber protective sleeve. In this video we show you the proper way to remove the pivoting arm that connects the back chassis to the front chassis of a Husqvarna Automower 435X, 435iQ, & 535AWD model. This is the part that allows the 435X, 435iQ, and 535 AWD Automowers to articulate. This arm needs to be removed in order to open the rear chassis of the 435X, 435iQ, and 535AWD mowers to make repairs to any of the boards, motors, or other components housed inside of the rear chassis. The fact that is has just one bolt running through the center of it makes it seem like removing this arm would be a very simple procedure, and it is simple when they are new new and clean and haven't been out in the elements. This area of the mower can get built up with grass clippings and other debris that will cause the shoulder bolt going through the pivoting arm to rust and be tough to remove. This is one more operation where we have to stress DO NOT USE POWER TOOLS because you can cause some expensive and time consuming damage in a hurry if you do. As you can see in this video the best option is a 3/8" drive ratchet, a socket with a 4mm hex key, and some penetrating oil. It's important to not get rammy and in a hurry when trying to remove these parts. Instead work the bolt out a little at a time and keep it lubricated with penetrating oil so that it cleans out some of the rust on its way out while causing as little damage or wear as possible.
